Cleveland council approves $10,500 painting contract for fire hall exterior repairs

Fire Chief Brady Hahn told the Cleveland City Council on May 4 that the fire hall exterior is showing significant wear and has not been updated since about 1991, citing holes in siding and general deterioration. He proposed painting and adding trim such as wainscoting to improve the building envelope.
Council reviewed multiple written quotes: Dan Weichmann $10,120 for painting; Plonsky Painting $10,500 for painting; Rice Services $24,082.60 for metal siding (quote did not include a backer); and Apex Construction $36,750 for metal siding including a backer. Hahn and council members noted Rice Services’ quote omitted a backer while Apex’s quote included one; council asked Rice Services to submit an updated quote that includes a backer so pricing could be compared on equal terms.
The council approved the Plonsky Painting $10,500 painting quote and directed that the funds come from the fire-department capital outlay account. The motion to approve Plonsky Painting was made by Anne Hiller and seconded by Nancy Gens and passed unanimously.
