Sheriff's Office to issue $30 parking citations at Queenstown boat landing

Lieutenant Troy Lowery of the Queen Anne's County Sheriff's Office told the commission the department "will issue $30.00 citations as needed" at the boat landing and has notified patrol personnel of the enforcement change. He said the department is also conducting directed patrols in the Queenstown area and will explore weekend and nighttime patrols.
Town staff and code enforcement previously left warning notices because police could not provide identifying information needed to issue citations. Per Lowery, the town can now rely on Sheriff’s Office personnel to issue citations; staff will clarify whether Code Enforcement Officers may also use the citation authority or whether citations must be issued by the Sheriff's Office.
Resident Di Quynn‑Reno later urged the commission to consider installing cameras or lights at the boat landing and the wastewater plant entrance after reporting suspicious overnight activity. President Al Hardee said staff will investigate camera options.
The change shifts responsibility for formal parking enforcement at the landing to the Sheriff's Office and may reduce the number of warning notices left by town staff.
