Boxholm council tables Xenia hydrant hookup, approves routine business

Mayor Sue Shreve presided over the Aug. 8, 2024 Boxholm City Council meeting, where the council approved routine business and delayed a decision on a water‑system proposal that would affect fire protection.
On motions carried unanimously by the four members present, the council approved the meeting agenda (motion by Paul Frazier, seconded by Victoria Helling), the minutes of the last meeting (motion by Veva Teeters, seconded by Helling) and the treasurer’s report and bills (motion by Helling, seconded by Teeters). The general fund bills totaled $5,427.84 and the sewer fund bills totaled $713.86; July income was recorded at $5,709.59.
A representative of Xenia presented a plan to add a hydrant at 4th and Pine that would tie into Xenia’s main line and depend on a water tower Xenia operates outside of town. According to the presentation, the connection would increase the fire department’s access to higher‑pressure water. The council was told the city’s share of the project would be $7,195. Council members did not vote on the project and instead tabled it for future consideration so members could review details.
Clerk Leah Porter reported that she had sent letters to residents about recent problems and will send additional letters to people violating city ordinances; no additional problems were reported at the meeting. Mayor Shreve said she would review city property and work to determine what items could be listed on the Purple Wave auction site.
Guests included Brian Reimers, who introduced himself as a candidate for Boone County Supervisor, and Erik Kretzinger, who gave an update on projects under way at Boone County and the Board of Supervisors; the county projects were mentioned but specific project details were not recorded in the meeting minutes. Discussion about rentals connected to a July event was tabled.
The council also noted a Little Free Library donated by Marva Jean Stark is ready for installation and will be placed at or near the new park and Grand Heritage; placement timing was not specified. The meeting record shows one council member absent (Robyn Dodson).
