Boxholm council approves monthly bills, hires electrician to fix holiday light poles

The council authorized payment of general fund bills totaling $11,687.13, including an invoice of $9,629.10 to Fort Dodge Asphalt for crack sealing. Sewer fund disbursements totaled $732.89. Reported general fund income for August was $7,080.68; sewer income included a $4,766.70 payment from Xenia. The clerk provided the finance figures as part of the treasurer's report.
Council directed Clerk Leah Porter to send letters to residents found in violation of local nuisance ordinances. The council also tabled discussion of the July 4th celebration and an item described as the Xenia hydrant; no action was taken on those items at the meeting.
The council voted unanimously to hire an electrician to repair outlets on light poles in preparation for the city's holiday lights display (motion by Paul Frazier, second by Veva Teeters). Councilmembers said the repairs are needed to ensure the lights function safely and reliably.
Sewer operator Robert Barnett announced his intention to retire effective Dec. 31, 2024; the council thanked him and said it will begin the process of finding a replacement.
