River Ridge CDD discusses storm-surge resilience plan; board members to assist with advisory panel

River Ridge CDD members on Oct. 22 agreed to participate in early-stage planning for storm-surge resilience after a presentation by Eric Long, PSGRC General Manager.
Long said Pelican Sound is developing a multi-objective resilience action plan for the next five to ten years and suggested creating an advisory/review panel to coordinate at state, county and village levels. He described a hypothetical scenario in which a 10'–12' storm surge could have flooded roughly 45%–55% of the community during a modeled Hurricane Milton event.
Long asked the CDD to designate a board representative and a staff or engineering representative to help coordinate when needed. The Board reached consensus that Mr. Long and newly appointed Board member Keith Merrill will assist; Chair Bob Schultz authorized District Engineer Charlie Krebs to provide assistance as necessary.
District Counsel noted that some proposals would require coordination and possibly funding from county or state agencies and that changes could take years to implement. The Board discussed that 3' storm panels would likely be inadequate and emphasized a long-term, multi-agency approach.
