Sanbornton commission to draft changes to Land Conservation Area standards to give planning board flexibility

At the March 12 meeting, commission member Brandon Deacon summarized a recent discussion with the planning board about the proposed LCA language and said the enforcement of deferral situations is complex. Deacon and other members discussed the distinction between deferrals and waivers and the difficulty of measuring deferred LCAs across the town.
To address those concerns, members agreed that removing strict subdivision language from the proposed standard and giving the planning board discretion on how to treat individual cases would provide necessary flexibility. Deacon will draft revised LCA language and forward it to the planning board for review.
Why it matters: the LCA standards affect how land conservation expectations are applied during planning and subdivision review, which in turn affects protection of natural features and ecological resources.
The commission did not adopt final language at the meeting; the item will return to the planning board for review of the draft language.
