Sanbornton Conservation Commission appoints new members and elects vice chair

The Sanbornton Conservation Commission appointed two new full members and selected a vice chair at its March 12 meeting at Old Town Hall.

Chair Dave Perry led the commission through a slate of appointments and an officer election. The commission appointed Bob Silvia (referred to as Robert Silvia in the motions) to the full-member seat vacated by Karen Bordeau; the term for that seat runs through 2028. The commission then elected Silvia to the position of vice chair. Both actions were approved by the commission.

Dave Perry moved several other membership changes: at Ray Masse’s request, Masse’s status will change from full member to alternate (term to 2028); Paul Stevens was appointed to a full-member position (term to 2029) contingent on completion of a volunteer application, Board of Selectmen approval and subsequent swearing-in; and Stephania Surowiec was appointed to a full-member position (term to 2029), also contingent on application, Selectmen approval and swearing-in. All recorded motions on membership changes were approved by the commission.

Brad Crosby moved to accept the February 12, 2026 minutes as amended; Brandon Deacon seconded. That motion passed 4-0-1, with Ray Masse recorded as abstaining.

Why it matters: these appointments fill multiple vacancies on the commission and set its leadership for the coming terms. The contingent appointments (Stevens and Surowiec) must be finalized by completing volunteer paperwork and receiving approval from the Sanbornton Board of Selectmen before they take office.

The commission adjourned at 8:59 p.m.; its next meeting is scheduled for April 9, 2026.
