Peoria County approves emergency Radnor Road drainage repair, low bid $101,000

Peoria County officials voted unanimously to approve an emergency repair after inspectors found a failed wing wall on a box culvert beneath Radnor Road, a presenter at the meeting said.

Amy, the presenter, told the meeting the damage is located just south of the Route 6 overpass and that the wing wall failed during June storms. "We did find that the wing wall had failed on a box culvert underneath the road," she said, and recommended installing sheet piling to stabilize the culvert and the roadway so traffic could be fully reopened.

The presenter said six local contractors were solicited for quotes and two submitted bids; the low bid was $101,000. "This will be coming out of the county bridge fund," Amy said. She said, pending approval, crews would likely begin the week of the 27th and that, in a worst-case scenario, the work could require a full road closure for about a week while a crane is mobilized and sheet piles are installed.

The presiding chair asked whether using the county bridge fund for the emergency repair would delay other projects. Amy replied it would not.

The chair asked for a motion to put the resolution on the floor; the motion was made and seconded (mover named as Terry, second named as Betty in the record). Participants attempted to register votes via iPads and experienced technical issues, and the chair reported, "It looks like it's unanimous."

No members of the public spoke on the item during the public-comment period. The meeting then moved to miscellaneous business and adjourned.

The county will proceed with procurement and contract award steps consistent with the approved emergency repair; the presenter said the earliest mobilization would be the week of the 27th, pending contractor scheduling and equipment availability.
