Village plans multilingual construction-site signage and enforcement steps after holiday violations

Commissioners on July 9 discussed persistent construction activity outside permitted hours and on federal holidays. Doreen (code compliance) said she has been working weekends and holidays, that staff issued about 14 violations during a recent holiday enforcement sweep, and that repeated noncompliance prompted a proposal to install multilingual on-site signs at active permit locations.

Doreen said the signs will explain permitted work hours and that the team has produced English, Spanish and Haitian Creole versions. The signs are intended to be durable metal placards and staff proposed recovering production costs through the building-permit process — either by charging a deposit that is returned when the sign is returned or by tying sign return to the building final inspection.

Chief Carlos (police) said officers regularly report on construction-site violations and will support enforcement, but noted officers can only respond when calls are routed through the non-emergency line or when patrol resources allow. The village manager confirmed code and police will coordinate weekend checks and suggested staff will return with an implementation plan.
