Northfield: 911 texting available countywide; fire chief hopes building operational by November

At the Oct. 9 Village of Northfield council meeting, Police Chief Brian Zajac said he had submitted his monthly report earlier in the week and told council that all Summit County dispatch centers are now capable of receiving and responding to texts to 911, an expansion of the county's emergency communications capability.
Fire Chief Jason Buss reported the department is waiting for the excavator and the concrete contractor to finish their portions of the work on the fire building. Buss said he is "hoping the building will be fully operational by the beginning of November." No formal vote or budget action was taken on the construction timeline at the meeting; the chief described outstanding contractor work as the remaining item before occupancy.
Council members did not debate or direct staff to change the schedule at the Oct. 9 meeting; the chiefs' updates were presented as departmental reports.
