Northfield advances Phase 1A of new police station; contract to appear on next agenda

Mayor Jenn Domzalski opened the Oct. 9 Village of Northfield council meeting with updates on the police station and municipal complex. Law Director Brad Bryan said he and Engineer Daniel Collins are finalizing a contract with the builder for Phase 1A of the new police station and expect the measure to be placed on the next council agenda; Bryan said the contract will carry a "not to exceed" cost in the vicinity of $1.3 million.
Engineer Daniel Collins told the council the Summit County Building Department sent conditional approval late that afternoon for the Phase 1A plans for the new police station. Collins also reported the Cambridge Road Project is about 98% complete and that he is preparing punch-list items to present to the contractor.
Collins said the village will need to consolidate two Village Hall parcels in connection with the future municipal complex projects and is seeking quotes from surveyors; he added that consolidation must occur before the new building receives an occupancy permit at the conclusion of construction. Mayor Domzalski and councilmembers did not take a formal vote on the contract at the Oct. 9 meeting; Bryan said the formal contract will be introduced at the next meeting.

The meeting adjourned on a motion by Hipps, seconded by Kevin Lewis; Noack, Vojtush, Magistrelli, Hipps and Lewis voted yes and the meeting ended at 7:44 p.m.
