The Peoria County Board voted to award an emergency contract to NE Finch Company for $101,000 to repair a collapsed wing wall on Radnor Road, just south of the Route 6 overpass.
County infrastructure staff said the damage was discovered during inspections after heavy June rains. An official identified as Amy told the board the county solicited quotes from six local contractors, received two proposals and that the low bid of $101,000 will be paid from the county bridge fund. Amy said crews expect to begin work by the end of the month and that, in a worst-case scenario, the road could be closed to all traffic for about a week while equipment is staged.
"This was discovered after the June rains," Amy said, describing the failed wing wall and why the county sought a permanent fix to protect the road edge.
Board members approved the resolution recommending the contract; the clerk recorded the vote as 15 in favor.
The board described the award as an emergency repair to protect the roadway and avoid further erosion. The county said the contract will not affect other projects in the area and that final scheduling will follow contractor availability and county coordination.
