Blount County commissioners forward library maintenance appropriation, SRO grant and insurance change

The Blount County Commission forwarded several budget and policy items after brief presentations and unanimous votes.
Clerk (S2) read Resolution 2607005, a $263,332 adjustment to recognize revenues and expenses for county maintenance of the Blount County Library. Commissioner Aikard moved the resolution, Commissioner Wells seconded, and the clerk reported, “Mister chairman, you have 16 yes votes.” The chair said the resolution will be moved forward to the full commission.
The commission also referred a Blount County Sheriff's Office grant application totaling $1,575,000 to apply for fiscal year 2027 funding to hire 21 school resource officers at $75,000 each. No local matching funds were required; the budget committee issued a favorable recommendation and the commission approved by voice vote after a motion from Commissioner Aykard and a second from Commissioner Webb.
Separately, the commission read Resolution 267013 to add employees to the government crime insurance policy in lieu of statutory bonds. Commissioner Wells moved the measure, Commissioner Webb seconded, and the clerk again recorded 16 yes votes. The resolution will be forwarded to the full commission.
What happens next: All three items were referred to the full commission for final action. No public debate accompanied these three votes beyond the routine readings and roll calls recorded by the clerk.
