Sherman commission accepts two accessory‑dwelling permit applications, schedules May hearings

The Town of Sherman Planning & Zoning Commission on April 9 accepted two separate special‑permit applications for accessory living units and scheduled public hearings for May 7, 2026.

An application from Corrie Fisher seeks approval for a 400‑square‑foot accessory apartment to be constructed within the footprint of an existing attached garage at 13 A Osborn Road. Administrative Clerk Christine Branson reviewed the application file, which included a completed application, a signed land‑use affidavit, health approval, a utility bill as proof of occupancy, floor plans and an A‑2 survey. The applicants were not present. The commission accepted the application and set a public hearing for May 7 at 7:00 p.m.; a site walk is scheduled for April 20 at 5:30 p.m.

The commission also accepted an application from Peter and Jennifer Wolgast for an 840‑square‑foot accessory dwelling above a proposed 28‑by‑30 foot garage at 5 Crooked Furrows Road. Mr. Wolgast told the board the plan is to occupy the accessory dwelling first while the new primary dwelling is constructed. The file included a fully executed application, land‑use affidavit, health approval (covering both the new dwelling and accessory dwelling), a 22‑address abutters list, floor plans and an A‑2 survey. The commission set a public hearing for May 7 at 7:00 p.m. and a site walk for April 20 at 5:00 p.m.

Both applications were accepted for processing by unanimous votes of the commission during the April 9 meeting. The hearings will allow neighbors to comment and provide the commission an opportunity to review site conditions during scheduled site walks.
