The Select Board voted on June 17 to table consideration of a 2026 commercial barge permit for the Wolfeboro Dock Company until town counsel and the New Hampshire Charitable Trust Unit weigh in on whether commercial operations conflict with terms of the Libby will and related trust guidance.
Select Board members discussed whether existing permits and previously issued approvals could be affected by a legal ruling. Vice Chair Brian Deshaies suggested allowing a company with an existing permit to continue operations until counsel advises otherwise. Planning Director Barry Muccio asked whether a legal decision would affect permits already issued; members acknowledged it could.
Mrs. Murray stepped down from discussion because a family connection to a barge business was disclosed. Members voted to table the permit and request legal advice; the motion carried with three votes in favor and Mrs. Murray not participating. Suzanne Ryan of Friends of Libby told the board she supports restricting commercial operations and events, including weddings, at the Libby ramp and waterfront.
The board asked town counsel to review the Libby will and the NH Charitable Trust Unit guidance and report back before issuing or denying additional commercial permits for that area.
