Bridgeport Personnel Committee defines scope, schedules monthly meetings and records recommendation to post Township Manager position

Patrick Nelson, chairperson of the Bridgeport Charter Township Personnel Committee, called the committee to order Dec. 12 at 4:00 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The committee agreed that its primary role will be to make recommendations to the Township Board on the personnel policy manual, employee evaluation policies, job descriptions, salaries, employee structure and hiring policy, and to periodically review applicable labor law mandates. Committee members voted to establish a standing schedule of monthly meetings on the third Thursday at 4:00 p.m.

Committee member Evans moved and Committee member Adams seconded a motion to adopt the agenda as amended; the minutes record that motion as carried (Ayes: 2; Nays: 0; Absent: 1). The committee also moved to approve the March 28, 2024 minutes as amended to add an item labeled “Township Manager Job Posting,” and that motion is recorded as carried (Ayes: 3; Nays: 0; Absent: 0).

During new business, Committee member Evans moved and Committee member Adams seconded a recommendation that the Township Board post the Township Manager position for consideration at the Dec. 17 township board meeting. The minutes record the motion but do not include a vote tally for that recommendation.

Public comment was opened at 4:03 p.m. and closed at 4:05 p.m.; the minutes do not specify who spoke or summarize their remarks. The meeting was adjourned at 4:44 p.m. on a motion by Patrick Nelson, seconded by Committee member Adams (Ayes: 3; Nays: 0; Absent: 0).

The recommendation to post the Township Manager position will appear on the Township Board agenda on Dec. 17 for further consideration.
