Chair Jennifer Hoyt led the OHD Committee meeting at Academy Hall on Feb. 10, 2026, where members advanced plans for this year’s Old Home Day, setting several logistical items and taking votes on two agenda suggestions. The committee confirmed the reptile exhibit and a clown performer, discussed alternatives to the climbing wall, and tasked members with locating water-mister rentals and banner options showing the event’s regular date (Second Saturday in August).
The committee discussed outreach and staffing needs and noted that no current member is prepared to manage social media advertising. Members said finding someone to handle social platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky and similar) would be helpful; at least two prospective volunteers had expressed interest in assisting but were not present. "Chair Jennifer Hoyt is looking into two large banners advertising Old Home Day with the regular date," the committee recorded.
A proposal to bring back a bike-decorations parade and contest was discussed and the committee voted unanimously to reject that suggestion, citing difficulty reaching children in August and prior lack of interest. The committee also agreed to a suggested $20 donation for vendor booths; members emphasized the amount is a suggestion and not mandatory.
On entertainment logistics, Jim Hoyt said he is exploring alternatives to the climbing wall and mentioned Vertical Entertainment in Gilford as a potential vendor. Chair Hoyt said she is looking into a presenter who brings donkeys and offers educational material.
By unanimous vote the committee moved the ice cream social to Friday night; members noted black raspberry and chocolate chip as popular flavors. Discussion about placing a large food trailer was postponed so committee members can consult current Historical Society leadership and other stakeholders before deciding on a location.
Chair Jennifer Hoyt moved to adjourn; the motion was seconded by Nathan Irving and the meeting was adjourned at 7:50 p.m. The committee scheduled its next meeting for Tuesday, April 14, 2026 at 7:15 p.m.
