Bridgeport board approves MSHDA “Chill” grant authorization, adopts citizen participation plan

Bridgeport Charter Township Supervisor Augie Tausend said the board approved an authorizing resolution for the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) Chill Grant and adopted a required citizen participation plan at a special meeting on Aug. 13, 2024, at the Governmental Center on Dixie Highway.
The action came after a brief public hearing on the grant. Supervisor Augie Tausend opened the hearing at 6:01 p.m. and asked if anyone wished to speak in favor or against the Chill Grant; no members of the public spoke and the hearing closed at 6:01 p.m.
Trustee Placher moved to adopt the authorizing measure, Resolution R24-17, and Board member Adams seconded. The motion carried on roll call: Placher, Kuznicki, Tausend, Carpenter, Williams and Adams voted yes; Secord was recorded as absent. The board then moved to approve the MSHDA Chill Grant Citizen Participation Plan, again passing the measure by the same recorded support. Supervisor Tausend explained the Township must follow the citizen-participation process to prepare for the grant and make funds available to eligible residents.
The board took no substantive public comment on the items and adjourned the meeting at 6:21 p.m. The approvals authorize Township staff to proceed with the steps required by MSHDA to pursue and implement the Chill Grant; the record does not specify funding amounts, eligibility criteria, implementation schedule, or which department will administer the program.
