Center City council adopts water, sewer and stormwater fee increases effective Jan. 1

Councilmember Mark Wolcott presented the Budget Committee's proposals, which the council approved after discussion. Key changes approved include: a water unit charge rising from $40 to $47 per quarter (first 8,000 gallons included); an overage rate increasing from $1.75 to $2.25 per 1,000 gallons; a pumphouse fee increasing from $5 to $6.50 per quarter; a technology fee increasing from $6 to $7.50 per quarter; a sewer unit charge rising from $55 to $62 per quarter; a sewer treatment charge increasing from $4.10 to $4.75 per 1,000 gallons; and a stormwater fee increasing from $3 to $6 per quarter.
Councilmember Wolcott described the increases as necessary to cover recent system repairs and preventive maintenance. Councilmember Sally Swanson moved to approve the changes and Wolcott seconded; the motion passed on a 5‑0 recorded vote.
The minutes state the city will notify residents of the approved rates in the municipal newsletter and the increases will appear on current billing statements. No public comments were recorded during the meeting.
