Fire chief presents budget; dry hydrant upgrades and new recruits planned

Fire Chief Allan Clark presented the Sugar Hill Fire Department budget at the Selectmen's Dec. 22 meeting, reporting a proposed 2.5% increase. Clark said wages were lower this year because the department had no major fires or incidents during the budget period.
Clark said the Mobile Integrated Health line was reduced to $1,000 while the department waits for an agreement from LRH that would reimburse town expenses for the program. He also said he is seeking a new physician to perform department physicals that are not CDL DOT exams.
On equipment and infrastructure, Clark told the board he plans to upgrade dry hydrants and proposed installing dry hydrants on Birches Road and Toad Hill Road. He added the department has three new members who are being outfitted and will attend Firefighter I classes.
The Selectmen did not take formal action on the budget at the Dec. 22 meeting; the department's requests will be considered in upcoming budget deliberations.
