Kara Cruoglio, chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, opened the meeting at 6:01 p.m. and reviewed the Committee's progress to date, saying the night's work was intended to review and finalize goals and their measures of progress before sending them to the full Board for consideration.
The committee recorded members present: Kara Cruoglio (Chair), Margaret Hunt (committee member), Diane Barnes (committee member), and Tiffany Parkhouse (ex officio member). Jeffrey Villar, Ph.D., Superintendent, also attended the meeting.
Margaret Hunt moved to approve the Strategic Planning Committee Special Meeting Minutes of May 12, 2026; Diane Barnes seconded the motion. There was no discussion, and the motion passed unanimously.
On the substantive agenda item, committee members reviewed four proposed Board goals. The first goal, Programming/Curriculum and Instruction, received a minor edit to clarify measures of progress. Goals 2 and 3 — Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Climate, Culture, and Family & Community Engagement — were left unchanged. Goal 4, Operational Efficiency & Long-Term Fiscal Sustainability, also had no substantive change to its text, but the committee added a measure of progress related to achieving a "clean" audit; committee members noted the language for that measure will be finalized at a later time.
The committee reached consensus to forward the four goals, accompanied by an "origin story" describing how they were developed, to the full Board of Education in June for potential adoption. The meeting adjourned at 6:58 p.m. Meeting minutes were submitted by Christine Escobar, secretary pro-tem.
