Litchfield conservation commission schedules riparian presentation, says enforcement rests with staff

The Litchfield Conservation Commission scheduled a presentation on Riparian Zones for Sept. 30 at 7:00 PM at the Litchfield Community Center and tasked Marcia Fowler with continuing outreach to Alicia Charamut of the Housatonic Valley Association about participating.
Commission members agreed that enforcing conservation easements is properly the responsibility of town staff. They said that if staffing is insufficient, the commission should raise the issue during the budget cycle. Chair Barbara Putnam said she will meet with the town’s land use administrator to discuss the administrator’s job description and what authority or capacity the administrator has to enforce conservation easements owned by the town.
The group also discussed having a member of Sustainable Litchfield serve on the commission; Putnam said she will investigate that possibility. The meeting adjourned at 7:45 PM.
