Welfare official reports 12–15 General Assistance clients year-to-date; most are elderly

Paul Priestman provided the board with an update on General Assistance spending and caseload on May 12, reporting the town has assisted approximately 12–15 clients so far this year.
Priestman described expenditures related to emergency housing, rental assistance and funeral services. He said roughly one-quarter of clients have been young families and most other clients are elderly. During brief discussion, Select Board member Lianne Prentice asked about client counts and demographics; Priestman responded with the figures above. Priestman also confirmed Welfare typically becomes involved after residents seek assistance rather than making arrangements in advance.
