Selectman Richard Doucette updated the Select Board on May 12 that contractor Cobalt has begun construction on the recycling facility and that remaining USDA grant funds are available for a final phase of transfer station improvements.
Doucette outlined two main options: repaving the site, with current estimates between $32,000 and $42,000 (subject to fuel-price volatility), and installing a truck scale, with quotes ranging $60,000–$80,000 not including electrical work and some concrete pads. He said two existing concrete slabs may be usable, with one nearer the containers and one lower on the site appearing in better condition.
Discussion centered on site placement, the additional costs for electrical hook-up and pads, and the possibility of doing both projects if estimates and site work allow. Doucette said he will firm up pricing on paving, site/concrete work and electrical connection before the board commits funds. Select Board member Steven Schaeffer noted that security cameras at the transfer station are now operational.
No binding vote or appropriation was made; the board received the update and gave direction to refine estimates and return with more detailed cost information for a future funding decision.
