Board boosts senior minor‑repair funding and accepts medical‑marihuana harm‑reduction grant

The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners approved two public‑service funding items aimed at supporting seniors and public health.
The board unanimously approved a Senior Millage contract amendment that provides supplemental 2022 funding for Community Action's Minor Home Repair program. Administrator/Controller Kelli Scott said Community Action had obligated its current funding and requested the additional dollars to eliminate wait lists and meet demand through the end of 2022; the motion (Res.049-2022) passed by roll-call vote 7–0.
Separately, the board accepted a Medical Marihuana Operation and Oversight Grant proposed by the Calhoun County Public Health Department. Ms. Scott said the grant will fund distribution of free prescription lock boxes and education aimed at preventing accidental ingestion and addressing the risks of breastfeeding while using marijuana. The board approved acceptance of the grant (Res.054-2022) on a 7–0 roll-call vote.
Community Action representative Chuck Asher had earlier told the board he supported the Senior Millage amendment to help meet high program demand. No votes were opposed and staff will implement the program changes and grant activities as described.
