Poseyville council approves routine dockets, cemetery mowing contract and school sign; schedules events and discusses building inspector needs

At its March 10 meeting Poseyville approved claims/payroll/utility dockets and bank reconciliations, awarded the cemetery mowing contract to A Cut Above Landscape Solutions, approved an electronic sign for North Elementary with evening dim/off conditions, renewed an emergency dispatch subscription for three years, and discussed reestablishing a building inspector.
Poseyville’s council handled routine financial and operational items and several community requests at the March 10 meeting. The council unanimously approved the Claims Docket, Payroll Allowance Docket, Utility Adjustment Docket and February 2026 bank reconciliations after motions primarily by Mike Baehl and Randy Rankin.
President Justin Rutledge moved to award the cemetery mowing contract to A Cut Above Landscape Solutions; the council approved the contract unanimously and asked the contractor to take care removing flowers and decorations prior to mowing. Clerk‑Treasurer Jodie Rankin presented Resolution No. 2026‑03‑10‑01 to continue participation in a PEFA, Inc. gas discount program; the council adopted the resolution by unanimous roll call.
Todd Slagle, superintendent for MSD of North Posey County, requested permission to replace the existing sign at North Elementary with an electronic sign. The council approved the request with conditions: the sign must dim in evening hours and power off at 10:00 p.m.; Utility Manager Jeremy Farrar noted the existing sign sits slightly within the utility easement but does not currently interfere with utilities. Chief Kolley presented pricing for I AM Responding/Rapid SOS and the council voted to renew for three years to obtain a 5% discount. The council also approved revisions to the Right‑of‑Way Permit Application and new Right‑of‑Way Standards and Technical Specifications to include subcontractor information.
Council members discussed a recent unpermitted demolition that required sewer capping and noted the town needs a reestablished building inspector; the council asked the town attorney to draft an ordinance adopting the Building Commission’s ordinances into town code and to retire overlapping town ordinances on weeds, trash and abandoned vehicles.
