Poseyville clerk warns of temporary gas-fund shortfall; customers urged to set up payment plans

Clerk-Treasurer Jodie Rankin told the Poseyville Town Council on Feb. 10 that an unusually large gas supplier invoice required the town to temporarily move funds from depreciation, cash reserves and invested trust accounts into the gas operating fund to pay current claims.
Rankin said the transfers are temporary and that as gas payments are received those funds will be returned to their respective accounts; she estimated the repayment could take several months. Rankin described the underlying difficulty as a timing mismatch under the town's previous rate-tracking approach, where supplier costs were invoiced in real time while a three-month customer tracker provided a different rate, producing short-term deficits during high-cost months.
Rankin asked customers to call the Clerk-Treasurer's office to set up payment arrangements rather than waiting until the last day to pay. She also said the council may consider a balance-billing approach for customers in the future if the new billing structure does not stabilize cash flow.
