The Calhoun County Board of Commissioners opened and closed a public hearing on a Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) Trust Fund grant application for the Ott Preserve Iron Bell trailhead and then approved the authorizing resolution by a 7–0 roll-call vote.
Deputy Community Development Director Doug Ferrall told the board the grant would fund new restrooms at the South parking lot and provide drinking-water access; he said the improvements respond to a 2019 public survey that flagged facility needs and would include features to assist visitors with mobility needs. Ferrall said the improvements were identified as community priorities in the parks department's planning process.
Chair Steve Frisbie noted there were no public comments during the hearing. Commissioner Kathy-Sue Vette and others voted to approve the authorizing resolution (Res.045-2022). The board recorded a unanimous roll-call vote of 7–0.
Next steps described by staff include submitting the grant application and continuing parks planning for site improvements should the grant be awarded.
