Niles reported that the town incurred staff costs because the town's fee schedule did not previously include a specific rate for a fully staffed all-day event at Wayland Commons. Staff recommended adopting the fee structure used for sporting tournaments: $200 for four hours and $400 for eight hours for staffed events, to recoup personnel costs.
Board members discussed the proposal and the board's intent to avoid placing an undue burden on small private gatherings, noting the $60 fee still makes sense for short birthday-party–style reservations. The board moved and voted to apply the same fee structure to Wayland Commons as other parks; the motion carried with the board recording five ayes and two abstentions.
If the board's recommendation is transmitted to the town commissioners, staff said the change would align Wayland Commons' fees with tournament events where additional staff responsibilities are expected. The meeting record did not specify an effective date for the fee change; staff said the recommendation would be forwarded to the town commissioners for formal approval and scheduling.
