Parks Board appoints two students as nonvoting members

The Poolesville Parks Board voted July 8 to appoint two students, Jade Tillerman and Elizabeth Reed, to share the board's student-member seat.
Niles, a town staff member who presented the recommendation, said both students expressed interest and staff recommended appointing both so they can "share the responsibilities of the student parks board member." He noted the student position is nonvoting.
A motion to appoint both students was made, seconded and approved. The board recorded five members voting "aye" with two abstentions (members not present for the vote).
Board members praised the candidates as committed and noted one is active in the town tree program and another has an Eagle Scout project in progress. The staff will record the appointment for the town's official records; as nonvoting members the students will attend meetings and participate in discussion but will not vote on motions.
The appointments were a procedural action that does not change the board's formal voting quorum; the board did not modify the student seat's nonvoting status during the meeting.
