Stratford schedules hazard-mitigation meetings and seeks contractor for Veterans Monument repairs

At the June 29 Select Board meeting Suzanne Goulet reviewed the schedule for Hazard Mitigation Plan meetings on Sept. 2, 9, 23 and 30 at 5:00 p.m., and the Board emphasized attendance to complete the town’s plan, which is necessary to retain eligibility for certain state and federal emergency-management and grant programs.
The Board agreed to begin soliciting a qualified masonry and concrete contractor to repair the Veterans Monument. Members reviewed the process for adding veterans’ names to the monument and reiterated that any request to add a name must include a copy of the veteran’s DD214 or other acceptable proof of military service before a name can be approved.
Board members also agreed to investigate complaints about potential unauthorized structures and other activity at 42 Pleasant Valley Road to determine whether local or state regulations have been violated. Chairman Harry Juergens discussed a separate request from Bruce Blodgett to place a gate or chain near his Mapleton Road property and noted the segment of Mapleton Road in question is a Class VI road; the Board said no obstruction may be placed within the Class VI road or across the railroad right-of-way and Juergens will meet with Blodgett on site to review property boundaries before any action is taken.
The meeting also recorded routine administrative approvals (manifests and signed documents) and closed after two non-public sessions.
