Committee approves White Mountains hiking trip and 8th-grade Washington, D.C., trip

Chris Hailey, the hiking-club adviser, outlined the proposed October trip (up to 16 students and four chaperones), described the itinerary and safety measures, and said the cost to students would be $40 covering campsite fees and some meals. He told members the club will use district vans, carry satellite communicators and follow established chaperone and trail-safety protocols.
Committee members asked about off-trail bushwhacking and student supervision; Hailey said some students are adventurous but the trip will stick to well-traveled trails and chaperones will supervise. A motion to approve the hike passed on roll call.
The committee also approved an eighth-grade Washington, D.C., trip in April and several other in- and out-of-state requests listed on the agenda. Members discussed prior-year conditions and student experiences and recorded roll-call approvals for each request.
