Carlisle debates formal park names; council weighs changing 'Roscoe Roof Park' back to 'Roof Park'

City staff told Carlisle City Council on Tuesday that an ordinance would amend the codified ordinances to officially name city parks, noting that only Lions Park is currently named in code.
City Manager Chris Lohr said staff would like to add formal names for the informal park on Park Drive and other parks. Council members discussed the history and naming of Roscoe Roof Park: Councilman Jason Faulkner asked whether the property was donated by Roscoe Roof individually or by the Roof family; Councilman Tim Humphries said his understanding is the donation came from the Roof family and that the site was originally known simply as Roof Park.
Council directed staff to prepare any revisions members preferred before final adoption. Ordinance 8-26 had its first reading at the May 26 meeting and is scheduled for second reading on June 9.
What happens next: Staff will return to the June 9 meeting with revised language on park names for possible final action.
