Beaufort County announces 'Nexus Care' as outward-facing name for alcohol and drug services

Beaufort County staff on Thursday unveiled an outward-facing rebrand for its Alcohol and Drug Department as "Nexus Care of Beaufort County," saying the change is meant to reduce stigma and improve public engagement while the department’s legal name remains unchanged.

The committee heard that the rebrand grew from stakeholder and client feedback collected through 51 surveys and a core committee review. Staff said the new name and visual identity emphasize a "central hub" connecting residents to primary care, medication, mental-health services, housing, education and employment. "Nexus Care connects vital resources," the presenter said.

Officials credited in-house design work by the county public information officer; staff added that grant funding from the South Carolina Department of Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Services will cover marketing and reprinting costs, meaning no direct county expense for the rollout.

The presentation explained the brand’s visual elements and how colors on the emblem map to prevention, intervention, treatment and recovery, and noted the program’s clinical team uses a peer-support model described as CARE (Compassionate Alliance for Recovery Empowerment).

Committee members praised the rebrand and thanked county communications staff; staff confirmed the county will publicize details and outreach materials and that no committee action was required at the meeting.

The committee did not vote on the rebrand; staff requested support and said implementation steps and materials will be shared with council and the public.
