Diedj Lundgren, associate vice president for capital planning and budget, said the facility has "ADA and other code deficiencies that make continued use impractical" and described the plan to reconstruct the site for interim faculty and staff parking with surrounding green space while preserving flexibility for future development.
When asked to identify the specific building location, Diedj said the structure is east of the Foundation Building at 1848 University Avenue, near Camp Randall. He also told the board the new parking spaces will be assigned to the university rather than the foundation.
A motion to adopt resolution 4 was moved and seconded, after which the board held a voice vote and approved the demolition. No further financial breakdowns or construction schedules were provided at the meeting.
The presenter framed the demolition as part of a broader effort to remove obsolete facilities and reduce long-term maintenance liabilities across the UW System.
