Spring Grove council approves hire, accepts gambling proceeds and hears AFG grant denial for fire department

Council approved several routine actions affecting the Spring Grove Fire Department. Council Member Turner moved to hire Ryan Lange as a fireman; the motion was seconded and carried.
Fire Department Gambling Manager Brett Wiste explained that state reporting (LG555) requires documentation that a percentage of gambling proceeds has been donated; he asked the council to sign the form and asked that the funds be designated back to the Fire Department for equipment and future apparatus savings. Council accepted the donation and approved depositing it into the Fire Department 405 account.
Administrator Jana Elton told the council the department’s AFG grant application for $49,155 to purchase a Bauer Verticus 6000psi compressor was not selected. No further action was taken at the meeting on the grant outcome.
