Council approves Harvest Valley Farmers Market and West 2nd Street closure for Creamery Picnic
Summary
The Stevensville Town Council approved the Harvest Valley Farmers Market (July 25) and a street closure of West 2nd Street for the Creamery Picnic/Fireman's games; council discussed fire-ordinance constraints for market vendors and noted the need for an ordinance change rather than a resolution to relax fire requirements.

The Stevensville Town Council on July 9 approved two events-related items: the Harvest Valley Farmers Market scheduled for July 25 and a road closure request for West 2nd Street for the town's Creamery Picnic and Fireman's games.
Council discussed a previously raised issue about fire-safety requirements for the market. A councilor noted that relaxing a town ordinance would require an ordinance change rather than a simple resolution. The mayor said the issue is on the town's list for ordinance review and that any change would need to be done through the proper ordinance process.
Council then voted to approve the farmers market and, separately, to close West 2nd Street until about 1700 hours for the picnic and Fireman's games; roll-call votes recorded as Aye from council members present. The closures and vendor approvals included coordination with MDOT traffic plans and arrangements for sanitation and road-closure equipment, and the organizers said they had approvals for alcohol service and road closures in hand.
Organizers and staff said the community events have been successful in previous years and that logistics (road cones, sanitation, and traffic plans) were in place for the upcoming dates.
