Stevensville council converts mayor's sewer and water advisory committee into a council board

The Stevensville Town Council voted July 9 to adopt the mayor's sewer and water advisory committee as a council board.
The mayor explained that the temporary committee had met since March and that more work remained on growth, cost and quality questions for water and sewer services. Council debated whether to dissolve the committee or reconstitute it as a standing council board and discussed membership, bylaws and potential conflicts when two council members serve on the same board.
Councilmember questions focused on whether the existing bylaws remain applicable if the body becomes a council board. The mayor and council agreed the new board should revise or adopt bylaws appropriate to a council board and removed the committee bylaws from the current agenda; the motion to adopt the advisory committee as a council board passed after a motion, second and roll-call vote.
Council did not set the final membership list during the meeting; if the board is reconstituted as a formal board, council will handle appointments and the new board will present bylaws and membership for council approval.
