Library groundbreaking, summer-reading and family events highlighted at council meeting

Carrie Bernard, speaking on behalf of the Miami Township Library (soon to be Queens Library), thanked council for attending the June 29 groundbreaking and outlined library offerings for the community.

Bernard encouraged families to register children for the summer-reading program; she said anyone 18 or younger can stop in to receive a free book and be eligible for prizes through continued participation. She listed upcoming events: Legos on Saturday the 11th, a puppet petting zoo next month, a face-painting event at 1:30 p.m. on July 25 and a popsicle picnic on Friday the 13th. Bernard said the library will have makerspace equipment at the new location (3D printers, button makers, vinyl printers and screen printing at partner branches) and noted the library has a telescope available to lend through a Library Foundation donation.

Councilors asked whether the library planned other lending resources such as board games; Bernard said makerspace equipment is confirmed and she would follow up on specifics. She encouraged residents to check the library website for details and to contact the library with questions.

The update concluded without formal council action but provided community-service and program information for residents ahead of the library's move and new services.
