Granite board approves parental/postpartum leave policy, food-and-beverage rule and several administrative appointments

The Granite School District Board of Education on July 7 approved two policies and accepted several administrative appointments and transfers.

Douglas Larson presented Policy 9a1p — "Parental postpartum recovery, adoption, and foster leave" — as a second and final reading, explaining the amendments were intended to bring district policy into compliance with HB 329. The board approved the policy by voice vote with no roll-call objections recorded.

The board also approved section 16 of the fiscal policy manual, clarifying when food and beverages may be purchased with district funds and aligning the guidance with Internal Revenue Service laws and publications.

On administrative appointments and transfers, district administrators introduced several new principals and assistant principals. Announced appointees included Sabrina Felstead (principal, Moss Elementary), Kimberly Hill (principal, Jackling Elementary), Alyssa Longstaff (principal, Bonneville Junior High), Mandy Cosa (assistant principal, Lakeridge Elementary), Jeanette Fordham (assistant principal, Granger Elementary) and Ryan Hunt as the new district budget director. The board moved and seconded approval and the motion carried.

Board members commented that policies had been vetted in committee and that the administrative appointments were the product of district hiring processes. The actions were recorded as approved by voice vote; the transcript records "Motion carries" for the consent agenda and approvals.
