Avon council approves appointments, contracts and event funding in Jan. 4 meeting

Appointments and resignations: The council accepted Charles Harvell’s resignation from the Board of Finance and appointed Harry Captain to fill the vacancy (term to 12/31/2025). The council accepted the resignation of Micah Rousey from the Avon Water Pollution Control Authority and appointed Rob Gonse to that board (term to 12/31/2025). The minutes record many reappointments and new appointments across Planning & Zoning, Inland Wetlands, Recreation & Parks, the Building Code Board of Appeals, the Zoning Board of Appeals and other bodies; term expirations are recorded in the minutes.
Contracts and extensions: The council awarded a three-year grounds maintenance contract to Red Line Landscapes, LLC (not to exceed $275,160 total; $91,720/year). It approved two-year contract extensions through Dec. 31, 2025 for USI Insurance Services (Agent of Record), Phoenix Advisors (Municipal Advisor) and Robinson & Cole (Bond Counsel). The council also approved a $2,858.78 real estate tax refund to Sarkar Madhura.
Community events and projects: The council approved a $2,000 contribution from the Community Events Grant Program fund to support the Farmington Valley Celebrates Juneteenth 2024 regional event planned for June 15, 2024. The council accepted, "with much appreciation," the Avon Trail Enhancement Eagle Scout project completed by Teja Lakamraju.
