City recognizes Parks & Recreation employees; ADEQ honors department for compliance

Sierra Vista's City Council paused on July 9 to recognize Parks & Recreation staff and to accept a certificate from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality for three years of compliance.
Parks & Recreation staff member Miss Wilson and the mayor called up award recipients including Luke Serna (sports division), Shawn Ledger (aquatics), Eri Atsuko (library programming), Tracy Ibarra (department specialist), Andy Young (part-time overall employee of the year) and Teresa Penny (full-time employee of the year). The mayor and council presented the awards and took a group photo.
Sharon Bessard of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality accepted a certificate noting the city's commitment to continuous environmental improvement through pollution prevention, resource conservation and public outreach. "We received this award for three years of perfect compliance with the state," Bessard said, praising staff who manage water and related environmental responsibilities.
Council members congratulated the awardees and thanked Father Greg for the invocation and the tribute to Mother Julia McCaw.
