Somerset July 4 celebration honors graduates, recognizes swim team and crowns contest winners

Town Clerk Linda Williams read names and brief notes for several local graduates and their next steps, from elementary placements to university plans. "Graduates, as you step into this next chapter, remember that true success is built on continuous learning," Williams said as she announced the list of honorees.
Dan Hirsch, reflecting on 50 years of the Somerset swim program, announced that five Somerset Dolphins records were broken during the 2025 season. He said three individual marks were set by one swimmer, Indu Kumar, and named relay and open-medley record holders. The program also presented the Jeff Moss Mascot Volunteer Service Award to Andrew Lewis.
Judges for the bike and scooter decoration contest and the cupcake contest announced winners: Liz Smith named two first-place ties for bike decorations and invited winners to lead the parade to the pool; Matt Saft announced cupcake winners, including ties for best tasting. The mayor asked winners to come up and said winners would lead the parade to the pool following the formal program.
Montgomery County Executive Mark Elridge addressed attendees, thanking residents and volunteers for braving extreme heat and praising the county's diversity and civic life. "Montgomery County is a special place," Elridge said.
After the formal program closed, the town moved to the egg toss, parade and pool activities.
