County says it will step up enforcement around Metro Red Line shuttle corridor amid congestion complaints

Reporters pressing Montgomery County officials about shuttle-bus congestion during Metro's two-month Red Line shutdown said they saw delivery trucks and parked cars blocking shuttle lanes in Downtown Bethesda. County Executive Mark Eldridge said the county will work with departments to increase a presence in bus lanes and enforce lane restrictions as needed.
"If people have to get tickets, they have to get tickets. And if we have to tow people, we tow people," Eldridge said, acknowledging the enforcement trade-offs for police resources and promising to discuss deployment with relevant departments.
Officials also noted coordination with Maryland Department of Transportation and state police for education and enforcement along major corridors, and said the county will consider additional operational responses if congestion persists.
