Union City backs Erie County housing plan and approves tax exoneration for Land Bank property

Union City Borough Council unanimously approved a resolution supporting Erie County’s effort to complete a new countywide comprehensive housing plan and voted to exonerate taxes on one property sold to the Land Bank.
The housing resolution directs Erie County to use MAP grant funds and Act 137 (Affordable Housing Act) funds — derived from housing deed transfers — to develop recommendations to improve housing quality and affordability countywide. Councilor Osborn moved the resolution and Councilor Steadman seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The minutes note several borough residents have applied for Act 137 funds based on income eligibility.
Separately, the council approved a resolution to exonerate unpaid taxes totaling $5,563.49 on the property at 121 East High after the Land Bank purchased the parcel. Councilor Kerns moved the tax-exoneration resolution and Councilor Steadman seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
At the same meeting the council also set trick-or-treat hours for Thursday, Oct. 31 from 6:30 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., approved routine administration motions (agenda, minutes, secretary’s report, and bills) and adjourned at 6:50 P.M. The minutes record an executive session from 6:58 P.M. to 7:42 P.M. to discuss real estate, personnel and contracts with no action taken.
