Union City adopts Broadband Ready Community resolution, updates Right-to-Know policy

Union City Borough Council on July 23 adopted a resolution authorizing an application to the PBDA for Broadband Ready Community designation and appointed the Erie Area Council of Governments to serve as the borough’s municipal broadband champion. The public meeting on broadband earlier that evening drew no members of the public.
Councilor James Kerns moved to adopt the resolution and Councilor Melissa Winkler seconded; the motion carried unanimously. The minutes record that the separate public meeting on broadband started at 5:45 p.m. with no public attendance.
Council also approved solicitor Wachter’s recommended update to the borough’s Right-to-Know Rules and Regulations to clarify handling of anonymous records requests. Councilor Osborn moved the revision and Councilor Steadman seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Borough Manager Cindy Wells announced several administrative items including a July 30 health insurance meeting at the Municipal Authority at 5:30 p.m., National Night Out on Aug. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m., withdrawal of a USDA grant application, and availability of Northwest Pension second-quarter reports. Council also discussed checking solicitor availability to move council meetings to the first and third Mondays from September through April.
