Council accepted a $5,000 bid from Mansfield to repair and reconnect storm pipe at the Municipal Lot #1 sinkhole, with the borough providing pipe and fittings estimated at $5,000. Councilor James Kerns moved the authorization and Councilor Steadman seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips told council crews had put approximately 400 gallons of dye into a storm drain near Hogan’s Alley and that the dye is entering sanitary lines bound for Municipal Lot #1. Phillips said the borough is arranging camera inspections to trace where the sewer lines run and identify the source of infiltration.
Separately, council awarded the Devereaux Park/French Creek Trail project to Vavala Concrete, the low bidder at $84,774. The award was made by motion of Councilor Osborn, seconded by Councilor Steadman, and carried unanimously.
The decisions follow council discussion about repair options and contractor quotes presented by borough staff. The repairs at Municipal Lot #1 are intended to address the immediate sinkhole and associated storm sewer issues; the trail project award advances a planned park improvement.
Council recorded no public comment on these items during the meeting. The council adjourned at 6:38 p.m.; an executive session on personnel and contracts followed with no action taken.
