Drummond board adopts short-term rental, accommodation tax and mobile-home fee ordinances; grants temporary liquor license

At its Jan. 14 meeting, the Town of Drummond Board approved three ordinances—a short-term rental ordinance, an updated accommodation tax ordinance, and a mobile-home monthly fee ordinance—and granted a temporary liquor license for the Feb. 15 Barstool Races. Bills and minutes were also approved.
The Town of Drummond Board approved multiple local ordinances and permits at its Jan. 14 meeting and completed routine financial business.
Andy Tuttle, town clerk, presented a new short-term rental ordinance intended to create uniform standards for short-term rental properties. The clerk also presented a rewritten accommodation tax ordinance that removed short-term rental standards moved to the new ordinance. Supervisor Scott McKinney moved to adopt Ordinance #20250114 (Short-Term Rental) and Ordinance #20250114B (Accommodation Tax), and Supervisor Jeff Hurula seconded the motion; the minutes record the motion as carried.
The clerk then presented a Mobile Home Monthly Fee Ordinance drafted to address cabins on U.S. Forest Service (USFS) land that previously were listed as personal property and had been eliminated from that listing. The ordinance is intended to allow the town to collect a property-like fee on buildings placed on leased land. Supervisor Jeff Hurula moved to adopt Ordinance #20250114C and Supervisor Scott McKinney seconded; the minutes record the motion as carried.
The board also considered a temporary liquor license application from the Drummond Dirt & Sno Jacks to sell alcoholic beverages at the Barstool Races scheduled for Feb. 15, 2025, at Drummond Park. Supervisor Jeff Hurula moved and Supervisor Scott McKinney seconded to grant the temporary license; the motion carried.
Other routine business recorded in the minutes: the board approved the Dec. 10, 2024 minutes (motion by Jeff Hurula, second by Scott McKinney) and approved checks #45661 through #45696 for payment of bills (motion by Jeff Hurula, second by Scott McKinney). The minutes also note the town purchased a building and property from Chippewa Valley Bank in mid-December, that utilities have been transferred to the town, and that remaining equipment must be removed by the bank; the board will consider uses for the building at a future meeting. The board discussed, but declined to provide, a letter of support requested by the Town of Cable for an Innovations Grant to study combined emergency services among four towns; the board said the grant is non-competitive and questioned whether the research would yield cost savings.
The next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 11, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the Civic Center. The meeting adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
