Drummond board signs USFS road agreement, approves timber sale on Tars Pond Road

At its May 13 meeting the Town of Drummond Board voted to sign a renewed U.S. Forest Service (USFS) road agreement and to enter a timber-sale contract for tree removal along Tars Pond Road. The motion, made by Supervisor Scott McKinney and seconded by Supervisor Jeff Hurula, carried.
Supervisor McKinney said the town clerk had contacted the Washburn Ranger for clarification on road ownership. According to the USFS, the ownership is a "gray area," but the Ranger indicated the roads are being treated as town roads for the purpose of disbursing USFS funds for improvements and repairs. The board concluded the agreement is necessary to permit the USFS to disburse funds when available.
The board also discussed the USFS requirement that the removal of trees in the right-of-way on Tars Pond Road be treated as a timber harvest, similar to work previously done on Horse Pasture Grade. Board members voted to enter the timber sale contract for that removal as part of the agreement.
No vote tallies were recorded in the minutes; the meeting record lists the motion as "carried." The action authorizes the town to sign the USFS road agreement and execute the timber-sale contract; the clerk will complete the necessary paperwork.
The next Town Board meeting is scheduled for June 10, 2025.
