Regional planner reviews draft chapters of Eagle River comprehensive plan; commission schedules April follow-up

North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission planner Eric Sonnleitner presented draft Chapters 1–3 of a comprehensive plan and reviewed the nine elements required by Wisconsin law; the commission will revisit the update on April 2, 2026.
Eric Sonnleitner, planner with the North Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, presented draft Chapters 1 (Introduction & Demographics), 2 (Natural, Cultural & Agricultural Resources) and 3 (Housing) of a proposed comprehensive plan during the Plan Commission meeting on March 5.
Sonnleitner explained that a comprehensive plan provides a 20-year vision to guide community physical, social and economic development and said it is intended to provide a rational basis for local land-use decisions but is not itself a land-use regulation. He noted the nine elements the Wisconsin Comprehensive Planning Law requires be included in a comprehensive plan: demographics; agricultural, natural and cultural resources; housing; transportation; utilities and community facilities; economic development; land use; intergovernmental cooperation; and implementation.
Packets containing the NCWRPC draft of Chapters 1–3 were made available to attendees, and commissioners provided updates to city information for inclusion in the draft. Sonnleitner and commissioners discussed the plan’s process, goals and objectives, and the commission noted that City Council has passed Resolution 1073 adopting a Public Participation Plan for this update.
The commission agreed the Comprehensive Plan Update will be included on the Planning Commission agenda for April 2, 2026 for further review and discussion.
